TRK 101 Turkish Language-I
This course explores the prolific, orderly and rich ancient language that is Turkish Students are expected to comprehend what they listen to and what they read in depth and with subtlety; and to express what they hear, see, think and understand in a planned, effective and rational manner both orally and in writing. Grammar topics are covered in such a manner that the meaning is well grasped thus making the student able to express himself/herself by virtue of observations and comparisons made on text passages. Students gain further information through presenting what they read.
MING 101 English-I
Students take this course after taking a placement test. This course focuses on the four macro skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students actively take part in the course. The content of the course is congruent with the specific subject areas.
MBT 101 Information Technologies-I (ECDL)
In this course students are provided with knowledge on computer hardware and standard application software besides the fundamental concepts of information technology. Information Technology is based on the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) certification curriculum, which is becoming a standard in fundamental computer education throughout the world. After completing the course, learners are expected to be ready to succeed in the 1st stage of ECDL core certification test and to obtain the certificate.
MOD 101 Key Skills
The course will provide students with opportunities to develop interpersonal and analytical skills and knowledge both in theory and practice of communication. This course is divided into two modules: Numeracy and Literacy. The Key Skills (Numeracy) course aims to help students select and apply numerical, graphic and related mathematical skills in appropriate ways. The Number Standards Application encourages students to develop and demonstrate their skills in interpreting information involving numbers, carrying out calculations, interpreting results and presenting findings. The other module, Key Skills (Literacy) aims to improve students’ skills in a wide a range of contexts i.e. at work and at school. The course will develop their ability of “working with others,” in “improving their own learning” and performance as well as “problem solving.”
MMUH 101 Introduction to Accounting
This course offers learners who are new to the study of business, an introduction to some of the major themes which are developed with increasing complexity throughout this specification.
The course is designed to encourage learners to make basic connections between different aspects of business behaviour. Learners are introduced to the range of business activity in public, private and voluntary (not-for-profit) sectors and at local, national and global levels. Business aims and objectives are introduced along with strategies for their achievement via interdependent functional areas. Plans to ensure survival and encourage growth are also considered.
MISL 101 Business Environment
The aim of the course is to encourage learners to identify the objectives of organizations and the influence of stakeholders. Learners are also encouraged to investigate the operation of organizations in relation to the local, national and global environment. The course also provides learners with a solid base of understanding of the parameters within which organizations act that can be built upon in further courses.
MLOJ 101 Logistics
This lecture presents the fundamental management knowledge required by operations experts in the logistics and transport industry. It covers aspects of the internal and external structures of an organization, the governance of the people within the organization and those financial and other planning techniques necessary to maintain organizational health. It aims to deliver the understanding and competence of those key elements of management practice that are fundamental to both commercial and non-commercial organizations.
HUK 101 Common Law
Students are expected to learn how to understand and use basic legal terminology and some case studies in law. Law of contract is given at a basic level and making a business contract and implementation of a contract in business is also clarified. Students study a standard business contract and its application in business. They are also given ways to use different kinds of legislation for a certain case, and how to enforce and maintain rights.
TRK 102 Turkish Language-II
This course covers world languages and specifically Turkish through text analysis, written expressions (the paragraph, critical thinking: definition, illustration, comparison, quotation, statistics), types of expressions (explanative, argumentative, narrative, descriptive), writing essays, delivering speeches (discussion, debate, telling jokes, narrating events and experiences, etc.),Turkish grammar (syntax, semantics); Turkish spelling and punctuation.
MING 102 English-II
As in MING 101, students are grouped according to their proficiency levels after taking a placement test. The four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are presented. Students are also assigned some extra work in English such as searching for English material, doing homework and exercises. Authentic material is used in order to help students to better understand the oral English. Examples are selected from their subject areas. A student-centered approached is applied to motivate students to achieve more in English. In this way, students feel themselves to be more authoritative and they take more responsibility in learning English.
MBT Information Technologies-II (ECDL)
This course is the continuation of the Information Technology- I, and the learners are trained in database and presentation application software and also informed about communication methods over the internet and the issues arising in this field in relation with the developments in communication technology. After completing the course, learners are expected to be ready to succeed in the 2nd stage of ECDL core certification test and obtain the certificate. Information Technology-II course consists of the following modules: Databases (with Microsoft Access), Presentation (with Microsoft PowerPoint) and Information and Communication.
MOD 102 Managing Communication and Information
In this course students are provided with the ability to develop communications skills and to plan their own communication process. It also deals with the effects of decisions made by directors on participants of the organization community. It also helps to develop better network based on sound principles and stresses the importance of information flow from the directors to other participants. It deals with skills such as problem solving and team work, which are needed in business life.
MPAZ 101 Marketing
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with basic concepts and principles of marketing. It gives an insight into the role of marketing in changing business environments. It gives students a general point of view of marketing and prepares them for professional marketing work.
MLOJ 102 International Logistics
This course covers the basic understanding of international transportation, and issues on international trade and transportation. It provides students with the structure and management international transportation. It also deals with such issues; cost efficiency and pricing, measuring performance, the policy of the EU and Turkey. Transportation via international roads, railways, air and sea are also studied.
MUTY 101 International Business
The main objective of this course is to provide necessary information in order to manage global material flows from producer to final consumer within the framework of an organization’s commercial strategy. The course is concerned with complicated subjects as regards the determination of the natural risk in the international supply chain and the effect of foreign trade legislation, incentives and international regulations on international trade applications. The main subjects are related to the global logistics strategy development and to the acquisition of necessary skills concerning global logistics operations, their application and management. The main factor is based on the successful discussion of more extensive commercial and financial subjects.
HUK 102 Business Law
This course is an introduction to the legal issues around antitrust violation in corporations.
This course introduces learners to four areas of business law which affect the day-to-day operation of many organizations in clearly understandable ways. Learners will consider rules for the formation of contracts, along with ways in which these differ from mere agreements, which are not legally enforceable. The unit covers elements of statutory consumer protection, in relation to contracts for the sale and supply of goods and services. Learners will also consider aspects of employment law, in particular recently improved employee rights and the impact of data protection legislation on the workplace. International business and EU legal regulations, monopolies, mergers, the use of proprietary law etc. are also analyzed.
MUTY 201 Foreign Trade Incentives
The main objective of this course is to give information about foreign trade incentives in Turkey and their application. In addition to this, basic concepts relative to incentives, credits and foreign trade oriented public aids are handled in the course. Within the context of this course, information related to foreign trade legislation is also given to students.
MUTY 203 Foreign Trade Operations
The main objective of this course is based on the teaching of basic techniques about the practical make-up of foreign trade transactions and on that of foreign trade legislation. Within the context of this course, import and export transactions (operations), types of export and export stages, import transactions and import stages and documents used in imports are handled. In addition to this, information relative to payment techniques, subsidiary institutions and types of delivery in foreign trade are also examined.
MUTY 205 International Trade Case Study Project
In this course, issues such as developments in world trade, cooperation in international trade, international trade policies are taught. Moreover, this course includes an examination of case studies in international trade, field studies, student projects and current issues around the subject.
MGIS 221 Customs Law and Operations
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with Turkish customs law and regulations and implementations with examples. It includes basic concepts on customs, customs taxes, customs regimes and establishing and determining customs tax according to different customs.
ATA 201 Principles of Ataturk and History Reforms -I
This course deals with the reform movements in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the reasons for their failure as well as the effects of those movements. It uses examples of events, and examines the ideologies put forward to save the country in Ottoman times. Among those ideologies, the effect of Turkish movement in the Independence War is considered.
MISL 207 E-Business Operations
The development of the internet for purchasing, supply chain management and other business applications are examined in this course. It is first necessary to identify the essential differences between business and consumer purchasing (b2b and b2c). Experience with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) established the ground rules for e-business over the internet, which has led to the development of electronic marketplaces and industry networks. Electronic payment systems and the use of the internet for recruitment, employee communication, logistics and international trade are also covered.
MISL 201 Human Resources Management
This course provides an introduction to the concepts and practices of human resource management. The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of the human resource management role and function within the key areas of resourcing, reward, development and relations. The course also provides a global comparative perspective regarding human resources management policies and applications.
MGRS 201 Project Management
The aim of this unit is to provide a basic knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, tools and techniques that may be used in any industry, the professions and the public sector. Organizational and human resource factors are also included. Learners will develop an understanding of what constitutes a project and the role of a project manager. They will be able to analyze and plan the activities needed to carry out the project, including how to set up a project, how to control and execute a project, and how to carry out project reviews. They will also understand how the project fits into the company or other organizational environment.
MISL 213 European Business
In this unit learners will focus on how EU membership impacts on Turkey and organisations located in Turkey. The unit will focus on the EU as a dynamic and evolving influence.
MUTY 207 EU–Turkey Relations
The objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive understanding for students about the political and economic development of the EU in relation to Turkey. In this course, EU – Turkey relations since 1963 will be reviewed. In this context, the Ankara Agreement, Additional Protocol and the decision of the Customs Union would be elaborated on Additionally, Turkey’s harmonization with common policies and reforms which have been and will be made on the way of Turkey’s full membership to the EU will be discussed.
MISL 215 Business Ethics
The aim of this unit is to develop an ethical dimension in consideration of business objectives and responsibilities and to develop a broader view of the management process. This will be achieved by the investigation of narrow and broad business ethics issues and by making explicit links to related units.
MHIR 101 Public Relations
This course aims to help students develop a critical appreciation of the role of public relations in contemporary society and organizations. The course covers the history, principles and practice of public relations. It also examines the various contexts - social, cultural, intellectual and technological - in which practitioners must work, and relates them to the ethical standards of the individual, the profession and society. The course begins by examining the definition of public relations and how it has evolved. It then examines the major principles of PR practice and how they can be applied. It also examines the fields of practice in which PR practitioners work. Various case studies will be used to describe actual PR situations faced by a variety of individuals and organizations.
CTET 220 Business English-I
Collaboration with department instructors on producing materials enables students to learn and use the colloquial English and jargon of their subject area. Vocabulary is emphasized. Some tables, pictures, maps and models are used when necessary. Role play is frequently used in class to help students use the language in a “real” environment. Also, students are given assignments to write reports and present them in English.
MUTY 202 International Trade Accounting
The main objective of this course is to teach the booking of import and export transactions in accounting ledgers and to show the makeup of accounting transactions of foreign entries by the aid of applications. In addition to this, foreign currency transactions, current accounting, import and export transactions, foreign trade accounting and applications concerned with these subjects are also handled in this course.
MUTY 204 International Marketing
The objective of this course is to explain the concepts of international marketing and marketing in exports. In this course, students also learn international trade, international integrations, international marketing environment, international marketing strategies and marketing mix strategies in international marketing.
MUTY 206 Foreign Exchange Management and Regulations
The main objective of this course is based on the teaching of the basic principles of foreign exchange and Turkish foreign exchange legislation and also banking applications. Foreign exchange rules, foreign exchange regulations, documents used in foreign exchange transactions, exchange transactions relative to imports and exports, capital movements, foreign-currency loans and the historical evolution of the foreign exchange legislation in Turkey are handled within the context of this course. In addition to this, students make applications relative to the foreign exchange legislation with case studies.
MUTY 208 Quality Standards in International Trade
The objective of this course is giving basic information to students about the concept of quality and standardization. In this course, examples of standardization, the concept of quality controlling and institutions about quality and standards in Turkey, the EU and World would be assessed.
ATA 202 Principles of Ataturk and History Reforms – II
IThis stresses that the principles of Atatürk are based on the ideals to reach modern nations with Turkish historical and cultural values. The content of Atatürk’s words “Peace at home, peace in the world” policy is explained. The relationship between Ataturk’s reforms and the Turkish nation’s values with their unique features are examined. (This needs checking with the appropriate tutor or writer perhaps)
MISL 212 Small Business Enterprise
The unit is primarily designed for learners who are interested in small business enterprises and looks at the development and expansion of such businesses. It draws together many of the topics covered in other units and allows learners to practice the business skills required in a small business. The course also outlines a roadmap for analyzing the goals and plans small businesses need to develop in order to implement the necessary changes that small businesses live through.
MLOJ 202 Supply Chain Management
The aim of this lecture is to examine the main principles, concepts and practices of supply chain management. This unit covers four main themes. These are: what a supply chain is and supply chain planning, why it is important in any business, how the supply chain operates and the principles for supply chain improvement. Where appropriate, the global nature of the supply chain will be emphasized. Learners will examine the components of supply chains and how these vary within different logistics and transport organizations. They will learn how organizations manage and control their supply chain functions to gain both competitive and cost advantage. Learners will also investigate supply chain planning from both the strategic and operational standpoint. They will identify and cost activities within supply chain operations, referring to performance indicators, marketing, and response to customer needs and benchmarking. As there is always a need to improve supply chain performance, learners will investigate methods used to enhance systems, approaches to performance improvement and the role of technology in supply chain improvement.
MPAZ 202 Marketing Research
This course builds on the work in the core courses and also builds specifically on Introduction to Marketing. It extends the learners’ knowledge and understanding of marketing research, and helps to develop a range of marketing research skills. It offers opportunities for learners to engage in the processes of marketing. To achieve this course a learner must (1) explore the principles of marketing research, (2) plan research, (3) implement research and (4) consider the interpretation of research findings.
MISL 210 Operations Management
The aim of this unit is to enable learners to grasp an understanding of the operations function within an organization. They can then develop this knowledge to include elements of product and job design, planning and control and methods for improvement in order to effectively organize strategic operations management processes.
MBAS 222 Risk and Insurance
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with potential risks which might emerge in air, sea and railway transportations and with the insurance operations to prevent those risks. Topics such as transportation contract, risk analysis, the importance of package, insurance information, insurance coverage, international insurance operations, are studied. In addition, students are informed about the international solutions for risk and insurance issues.
MGIS 222 Customs and Free Zones
This course aims at providing students with issues on customs operations, customs documentation, financial operations, and the role of the state in foreign trade. It also informs students about operations of multinational companies in trade, transportation, and logistics.
MUTY 210 European Union Politics
The objective of this course is to explain the formation process of the Common Policies of the EU. In this course, with the participation of students, the EU’s policy formation structures and processes, some important common policies such as t he Common Agricultural Policy and the Common Foreign and Security Policy would be elaborated on.
MBAS 101 Banking
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with banking, the development of banking, central banking, and its authority and responsibility. It also deals with bank types, foreign trade operations in banking, and electronic banking issues.
